The 2021 ICLAFI Symposium and Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with an international conference organized by the Slovenian Ministry of Culture as part of the programme of the Slovenian Presidency of the European Union. The conference was held in person and online on 10 and 11 September 2021.

Symposium theme

The theme for the conference was the right to heritage as a catalyst for sustainable development. The conference sought to shed light on the right to heritage, its role in modern society, and the significance of heritage for sustainable development. It concluded that there is a close correlation between heritage rights and sustainable development; that exercising heritage rights depends more on soft approaches than legalistic ones; and that since heritage rights underpin the humanistic dimension of sustainable development policies, they can give the latter better chances of success.

The symposium proceedings are available on website of the Government of Slovenia, and an executive summary and report can be accessed here.
